John Denver is a popular singer and songwriter who has touched a lot of people with his songs. A lot of them have roots in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, the singer-songwriter fell in affection with Colorado and later settled in Aspen. Denver's national anthems to his adopted state has drawn a lot of people to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared that John Denver is the only artist to represent Colorado. Denver was the first Hall of Fame ever to be inducted. For many, Denver is the symbol of Colorado. When I travel, I always come across someone on the opposite side of the world someone of New Zealand and you say 'I'm from Colorado and the first thing that comes out of their mouths is Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief career with folk bands and was his debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff wrote the tune inspired by Johnny Cash, but Denver was able to hear an early version and knew it was going to be an instant hit in the top 10. After performing the song at Washington D.C. to a large audience, Denver recorded it just days later.
